Betting Control and Licensing Board issue licenses for Aviator and other Crash Games

If you are just as much of a fan of online gambling as our editors, you must have heard of Aviator, Space Man, Limbo, and other crash games. Although these games have become massively popular over the last couple of years, many unlicensed and offshore casinos offer them to South African players.

Added to this, many crash game variants have been released that offer lower-than-usual return to player (RTP) rates than their original counterparts. As a result, the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has issued a critical directive to all licensed gaming operators in South Africa that offer these types of games, demanding more information regarding the integrity, fairness, and transparency of these games.

All casino software providers offering crash games, including but not limited to Pragmatic Play, Spribe, and AviatorUX, are required to resubmit a list of all crash games offered to South African players and a detailed description of their gameplay mechanics.

Additionally, the algorithms of the crash games have to be verified by an independent, third-party auditor, and have to meet critical compliance requirements. The “new” compliance requirements for crash games and other instant-win games that fall under the same category include:

  • Aviator and Crash Game Mechanics: A detailed overview of the inner workings of any crash game’s mechanics, gameplay rules, betting procedures, and payment processes.
  • Algorithm Information: Full disclosure on any algorithms used to produce game outcomes, all certified by an independent auditor to ensure the randomness, fairness, and adequate player protection.
  • Game Provider Information: The official names, certifications, and contractual details of any game provider involved in offering crash games by recognized casino software providers, online casinos, and gambling platforms.
  • Approved Pay Bills: All information regarding the billing and player accounts used for crash game wagers and transactions.
  • Terms and Conditions: All player-facing terms governing crash games, including but not limited to disclaimers, liability waivers, payout policies, minimum and maximum bets, accepted currencies, including cryptocurrencies, and maximum payouts.
  • Platform Integration Information: Written confirmation that the crash games are rightfully and fully integrated into a site’s main casino or sportsbook platform. Standalone crash games are not permitted for the time being in South Africa.

The Betting Control and Licensing Board sees Aviator and other crash games as “highly addictive” and, for this reason, sets out to financially punish casinos and betting platforms instantly by suspending any crash game offered on their sites when the new directives aren’t followed.

The Betting Control and Licensing Board has emphasized the importance of the new directive, stating that it will conduct thorough audits to ensure full compliance. According to the BCLB, any gambling operator found offering the subject games without authorization will be subject to the provisions of the Betting Lotteries and Gaming Act.

As crash games are highly popular among South African players and African players in general, we highly urge you to check the license status of your preferred online casino or gambling platform. This ensures you are playing the games with fair payouts and algorithms.
